How to Add an Impenetrable Password to Your Private Zoom Meeting
Zoom offers some of the best remote conferencing services in the world. It's used for online business meetings, online conferences, remote lessons in schools and universities, and other forms of online communications. Zoom has millions of users around the globe. However, with that kind of popularity comes the attention of hackers, business rivals, and other malicious third parties.
That's why it's critical to make sure your meetings and webinars have adequate protection. A strong password is a vital aspect of good security. Zoom passwords can be set for each individual meeting or can be enabled at the user, group, or account level for all meetings and webinars. Zoom account owners and admins can also lock the password settings, to ensure that all meetings require passwords.
These settings are available for passwords:
- Require a password when scheduling new meetings
- Additional Option to require a password for all previously scheduled meetings
- Require a password for instant meetings
- Require a password for Personal Meeting ID (PMI)
- Embed password in meeting link for one-click join
- Require password for participants joining by phone
Also, there is a setting for Zoom Rooms allows certain users to bypass the password when joining meetings from a specific meeting list. This lets the room to join a meeting from the meeting list, without needing to manually enter the meeting password. However, the password must be included in the meeting invitation received by the room's calendar.
Note: Zoom Room computer and controller must have version 4.5.0 or higher to use this feature.

How to enable passwords for your Zoom account
- Sign in to Zoom.
- Press on Account Management.
- Click Account Settings.
- Go to the Meeting tab and make sure the password settings that you would like to use for your account are enabled.
- If those settings are disabled, press the Status toggle to enable them. When you see a verification window pop up press Turn On. If you wish to make this setting mandatory for all users in your account, select the lock icon, and then click Lock.
How to enable passwords for your a group
- Sign in to the Zoom.
- Select User Management > Group Management.
- Choose the Group Name from the list and press the Settings tab.
- Go to the Meeting tab and check to see if the password settings that you want to use for this group are enabled.
- If the settings are disabled, click the Status toggle and enable them by pressing Turn On in the verification window. Click the lock icon, and then click Lock to make the settings mandatory for all users in the group.
How to enable passwords for your meetings
- Sign in to the Zoom.
- Go to Settings.
- Find the Meeting tab and enable the settings you want for your meetings and webinars and click the Status toggle.
- Press Turn On to enable them.
- Note: If the option is unavailable it has been locked at either the Group or Account level. You must contact your Zoom admin to change it.
How to edit a password for a meeting
- Sign in to the Zoom and go to Meetings.
- Select the meeting you want to update the password for.
- Press Edit this Meeting.
- Edit the password under Meeting Options.
- Hit Save.
How to edit a password for a Webinar
- Sign in to the Zoom and open Webinars.
- Choose the webinar you would like to update the password for.
- Press Edit this Webinar.
- Edit the password under Webinar Options
- Press Save.
How to edit the password for your Personal Meeting ID
- Sign in to the Zoom and open Meetings.
- Select Personal Meeting Room.
- Choose Edit this Meeting.
- Edit your password under Meeting Options.
- Press Save.
