System Preferences not Responding on Mac
The System Preferences on your Mac is the equivalent of the Windows Control Panel. It gives you full control over your Mac's feature, and you can manipulate every feature and setting of your oerating system. With that being said, having System Preferences stop responding can be quite the annoyance, especially if this is a reoccurring problem. If System Preferences is not responding on your Mac, then here are some troubleshooting steps to try out:
Force Quit the Application
If the app appears to be fully frozen and you cannot close it, then you might need to use the Force Quit menu. One way to do this is to click on System Preferences in the Dock and hold your mouse button. This will open an extra context menu where you can select Quit. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Command + Option + Escape to load the Force Quit Applications panel. Once it is open, select System Preferences -> Force Quit.
Restart your Mac in Safe Mode
The Safe Mode on Mac allows you to boot your operating system without loading 3rd-party apps and services. This means that only the most necessary stuff will start, therefore eliminating random factors that could cause System References to be not responding on your Mac.
- Shut down your Mac.
- Turn it back on, and then hold Shift while it is booting up.
- Release the Shift button when you see the login prompt.
- Enter your credentials and proceed. You should see the Safe Boot notification at the top of your screen. You should now be able to use System Preferences without it crashing.
