Smmsky.co Attempts to Infect Devices
Smmsky dot co is a website that is seemingly distributing mobile applications. Sadly, all the apps listed on its front page are fake and will harm your device in one way or another.
Above all else, you should never install mobile applications and app packages from any source that is not the official Google Play storefront the or Apple App Store.
Smmsky dot co will list its fake apps in a completely blank interface, with just a column of app names and icons. There is no interface or search or other functionality to the page. That barebones look and lack of any functionality should be your first red flag.
When you try to install an app through the page, you will be told that "injection" is required. If this still doesn't sound like a massive red flag and you decide to continue with the alleged install process, a fake progress bar will fill up and you will finally hit a bad redirect to what is likely a known malicious page. When using an ad-blocking app and an URL filter, we discovered that our instance of a fake app attempted to land us on the following URL, which came up as a known untrustworthy string:
hxxps://verify.stc.tools/od.php?7c5bc9725a9b96eaa42759533e8a78f4
You can avoid a lot of potential issues with your device if you simply remember you should never install apps from unofficial sources and websites.
