Our research team encountered GlobalLetterSearch while examining newly submitted items on the VirusTotal platform.
Adware, short for advertising-supported software, facilitates the display of third-party graphical content (such as pop-ups, surveys, coupons, overlays, etc.) on visited websites or various interfaces.
The presented advertisements predominantly promote online scams, unreliable or dangerous software, and malware. Clicking on some of these ads can trigger scripts to initiate discreet downloads or installations.
It should be noted that any legitimate content encountered through these ads is unlikely to be endorsed by its actual developers or official parties. Scammers are more likely behind this promotion, aiming to gain illegitimate commissions by exploiting affiliate programs associated with the promoted product.
Adware may refrain from running intrusive ad campaigns under certain conditions (e.g., incompatible browser/system specifications, specific websites not visited, etc.). Nevertheless, even if GlobalLetterSearch doesn't display ads, its presence on a device poses a threat to system and user safety.
While many AdLoad applications have browser-hijacking capabilities, the GlobalLetterSearch adware did not exhibit these characteristics during testing.
