AnalogInterface Mac Adware
During the examination of new files, our researchers came across the AnalogInterface app. Upon thorough examination, we determined that it falls under the category of adware and is associated with the AdLoad malware family. AnalogInterface is specifically designed to conduct intrusive advertising campaigns and may possess additional harmful functionalities.
Adware, short for advertising-supported software, typically functions by displaying third-party graphical content such as pop-ups, coupons, banners, surveys, and overlays on visited websites or other interfaces. These advertisements often promote online scams, dubious or harmful software, and even malware. Clicking on certain intrusive ads can trigger the execution of scripts, leading to downloads or installations without user consent.
It's important to note that although legitimate products or services may be advertised through these channels, such endorsements are unlikely to be authorized by official entities. The motive behind such promotion is likely to involve the illegitimate acquisition of commissions through the abuse of affiliate programs associated with the content.
The delivery of intrusive advertising campaigns by advertising-supported software may depend on specific conditions, such as a compatible browser/system, user geolocation, or visits to particular websites. Nevertheless, the presence of AnalogInterface on a device poses a risk to system and user safety, irrespective of its display of ads.
While many AdLoad applications exhibit browser-hijacking functionalities, AnalogInterface did not demonstrate such qualities during testing.
Furthermore, adware commonly possesses data-tracking capabilities, a feature that may also be applicable to AnalogInterface. The collected information may include visited URLs, viewed pages, search queries, internet cookies, usernames/passwords, personally identifiable details, credit card numbers, etc. This gathered data can be shared with or sold to third parties.
