How to Turn Off the Keyboard Lighting on Mac
Backlit keyboards have been becoming increasingly common. They look neat and can have practical use in dark conditions. However, some users are annoyed by the backlit of their keyboard, and they would rather have it disabled permanently. If you are wondering how to turn off the keyboard lighting on Mac, then we have a helpful guide for you. Keep in mind that if you are using an external, non-Apple keyboard, then you should refer to its manufacturer's instructions to find out how to disable the backlight.
Managing Keyboard Light Settings on Mac
Head to the Apple Menu -> System Preferences section. After this, select the Keyboard tab and make sure that the Adjust keyboard brightness in low light is disabled. Now, press F5 on your keyboard to cycle through lighting modes and stop when the backlight is turned off.
If you wish to turn it back on, head to the same menu, but this time make sure that the checkbox next to Adjust keyboard brightness in low light is turned on. After this, tap the F6 button until the backlight activates.
Having Trouble with your Keyboard Light?
Some Mac users report having issues with the backlight on their keyboard – it turns off and on randomly or does not appear to work at all. While this might be a hardware issue, there is also a chance that it might be a minor issue that is easy to troubleshoot. In such cases, we recommend resetting the SMC or PRAM, which will help clear out potentially corrupted or damaged configuration files that may tamper with your Mac features - How to Reset a Mac's PRAM and SMC.
