Captcha Source Center Ads
Captcha Source Center is the name of a website that has a malicious ad campaign associated with it.
Users who somehow find their way on the captcha-sourcecenter dot com website most likely didn't open their browser and type the URL in the address bar or a search engine. There is no meaningful content or useful information or files associated with the domain name.
How users usually end up on the website is through bad and malicious redirects. Whether those redirects originate from ads served by rogue ad networks or through bad links, it doesn't make much difference - the user finds their way to the website either way.
Once there, the user is faced with a classical bait - a fake "Prove you are not a robot" message and confirmation box. However, like all other fake robot checks, the user isn't proving they are not a robot. Instead, they are being tricked into accepting intrusive push notifications that will affect their user experience negatively. Additionally, browser hijackers are also installed on the user's system along with confirming similar fake bot checks.
The "Prove you are not a robot" fake message has been around for a few years now and we have observed it on a huge number of malicious websites. Users should never click similar pop-up boxes or give their consent and approval.
The only reasonable thing to do in a similar situation is to immediately close the website to avoid getting any potentially unwanted software on your system, which may include browser hijackers, intrusive ads, or similar unpleasant and potentially dangerous unwanted guests on their hard drive.
