Affirm Holdings Responds to Evolve Bank's Cybersecurity Breach
Affirm Holdings, a prominent U.S. financial technology company, disclosed on Monday that a cybersecurity incident involving Arkansas-based Evolve Bank and Trust has potentially compromised the personal information of its card users. Evolve Bank, responsible for issuing Affirm cards, recently fell victim to a data breach, resulting in the illegal release of customer information on the dark web.
Despite this breach, Affirm assured its users that its own systems remain secure and uncompromised. The company emphasized that Affirm card holders can continue using their cards without interruption. Affirm's spokesperson confirmed that while they do share user information with Evolve Bank for card issuance and servicing, their internal security protocols have protected their systems from any breach.
In response to the incident, Evolve Bank has enlisted law enforcement agencies to support their investigation and response efforts. Affirm, upon learning about the breach, initiated its own independent investigation to ascertain the extent of the data compromise affecting its users. As of July 1, Affirm's investigation and remediation efforts are still underway.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining data security and the critical need for rigorous cybersecurity measures in the financial technology sector.
